White fillings and chipped tooth repair in Huddersfield
Replacement of Silver Amalgam Fillings
Traditional dental amalgam contain mercury, the safety of which has been debated for a number of years. So much so that the use of amalgam in dentistry is now banned in some European countries including Germany and Sweden. Although there is no conclusive evidence to show that amalgam is detrimental to health, it seems reasonable to be cautious to avoid placing a known poison in the mouth and then leave it there for a number of years!
There are now a number of modern alternatives to dental amalgam that are inert, far more aesthetically pleasing and known to be safe. At Edgerton Dental we remove old-fashioned dental amalgam under closely controlled conditions e.g. copious water irrigation and high level suction to remove mercury fumes and then replace the fillings with modern, high-performance materials.
Bonding to Reshape Teeth
At Edgerton Dental in Huddersfield we us a technique called cosmetic bonding to repair broken, cracked and misshapen teeth. Tooth coloured bonding materials, typically hardened plastic derivatives, are used to gradually build up the affected area of the tooth to correct defects and restore the appearance of the natural tooth. Bonding can last a number of years if well looked after but typically not as long lasting as dental veneers which can last ten years or more.
